The Keys Project

The Key Project first started when I moved to New York a few years ago. I was out one night and saw a key on the sidewalk - I remember looking down at it and whispering, 'Who owns you?' and then continued walking. In the next weeks, I kept seeing more keys until finally I started picking them up and collecting them. I became obsessed with keys and the idea that each key represented a person. 'What did these keys mean?', I kept asking myself. They represent. They represent who we let in and who we let out. We lock the keys we value.. They are also where we sleep, where we call home, our families, and a sense of ownership. It was almost as if the keys wanted me to be their owner. I liked the idea of something opening... and I thought they were pretty...
